BELLISSIMO MEDICAL RESPONDS TO FOUR MAJOR RETAILERS BEING ACCUSED OF SELLING FRAUDULENT NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS
On the first week of February, the New York State Attorney General’s office accused four major retailers of selling fraudulent and potentially dangerous herbal supplements to consumers and has demanded that they remove the products from their shelves.
The authorities said they conducted test on the top-selling store brands of herbal supplements at four national retailers (GNC, Target, Walmart and Walgreens) and found that, on average, four out of five products did not contain any of the herbs on their labels. These test showed that pills labeled medicinal herbs often contained little more than cheap fillers like powdered rice, asparagus and houseplants, and in some cases substances that could be dangerous to those with allergies.
This is why it is so important to purchase medical grade supplements from a reputable source. At Bellissimo Medical, we believe it is critical that consumers understand the importance of this issue and remain educated. We fully understand the dilemma patients find themselves in. Clearly not all supplements are created equal. That is why Dr. Nerette chooses medical grade nutraceuticals to recommend to our clientele.
At Bellissimo, we spend time with our clients listening to their medical past and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex chronic illnesses. Quality of Nutrients
Raw materials can come in many forms and from numerous sources. Some are not as effective as others, perhaps because they are less bioavailable or less stable than others. Some are selected by manufacturers, not because they are better, but because they are cheaper or easier to use in the manufacturing process.
While dietary supplement manufacturers are required to perform identification test on raw materials, they are not required to test their material for things such as residual solvents that may be used in the ingredient production process. While some of these solvents pose little or no risk; others have the potential to be harmful, especially if consumed over a prolonged period of time. and Dr. Nerette test their finished products prior to their release for shipment. Dr. Nerette has chosen companies that go the extra mile to ensure their products are safe and effective.
More and more people are choosing a natural approach to compliment their healthcare, but they are unaware of the possible interactions that can occur between prescriptions and nutrients. Many prescriptions can negatively affect the status of vitamins, minerals or other nutrients in different ways. Dr. Nerette can offer input needed to avoid interactions between drugs and micronutrients. Suggestions can be made when not to use certain supplements or when supplementation is necessary.
